2007 MODEL UNITED NATIONS
IMPORTANT DATES:
Wed. Oct. 31, – After School
Workshop #1
Wed. Nov. 7, – After School
Workshop #2
Thursday Nov. 15, Model UN Event –
AFTER SCHOOL 3pm to 6pm.
The students choose a country that they want to represent, which must be based on previous working knowledge of the country through residency, parental teaching, travel, or study for a class project. The students then research a problem that is “student relevant” such as child labor laws or mandatory education and form a position on it as if they represented that country at the United Nations. The event occurs in 3 parts, all after school:
a) an informational meeting after school on Oct. 26 to answer questions and help students understand the event, b) An after school workshop on Wed. Oct 31 to help students prepare and research their “country” and the assigned “problem” and c) An after school “Committee Session” Wed. Nov. 7 in which groups of students work together to prepare a draft resolution on how the problem should be solved, and finally on Nov 15 an after-school “General Assembly” session in which all participants meet, present their resolutions, debate the resolutions, and then vote to approve them. Participants will then receive pizza and dessert.

participate in the Model UN.
But these readings are a minimal start
to participation. You can research more IF you have the time and
interest! Remember to do your other work, and to enjoy the event.
